Don’t fear iPhone Duplicate Apps anymore!
August 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Geekery, Software, Technology, Uh oh!, apple, iPhone
The iTunes App Store, for the iPhone and iPod Touch, has been out long enough for developers to release updates to their apps — some have even release several updates. Acquiring the update is easy through both iTunes and the App Store on the mobile device.

However, there is a catch. Maybe you’ve gone to update your apps through iTunes and noticed something similar (opposite).
The reason this is happening may be magical and mysterious, but like totally curable!
Introducing Stutter Pourhadi’s Dupe Remover 3000 the app that will relieve disk strain and space by removing those pesky duplicates. (Ok so it’s more of an applescript, cry about it).
Pourhadi’s Dupe Remover 3000 is designed to
Frickin’ Obliterate Those Frickin’ App Dupes
Or in laymens terms
It will remove all but the latest version of the app from the Mobile Applications folder. Then you drag the apps back into iTunes and click the replace button for each one dragged in. (Hold shift or command and select multiple apps to save you frustration).

Steve Jobs on MobileMe Fail
August 6th, 2008 · No Comments · Uh oh!, apple

Steve Jobs sent a letter to the MobileMe team about their lack of success.
Team,
The launch of MobileMe was not our finest hour. There are several things we could have done better:
– MobileMe was simply not up to Apple’s standards – it clearly needed more time and testing.
– Rather than launch MobileMe as a monolithic service, we could have launched over-the-air syncing with iPhone to begin with, followed by the web applications one by one – Mail first, followed 30 days later (if things went well with Mail) by Calendar, then 30 days later by Contacts.
– It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store. We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence.
We are taking many steps to learn from this experience so that we can grow MobileMe into a service that our customers will love. One step that I can share with you today isthat the MobileMe team will now report to Eddy Cue, who will lead all of our internet services – iTunes, the App Store and, starting today, MobileMe. Eddy’s new title will be Vice President, Internet Services and he will now report directly to me.
The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services. And learn we will. The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year.
Steve
Rumor has it, the email was send around 4PM Pacific on Monday.

NASA finds oil on Mars, Keeps it a secret
August 2nd, 2008 · No Comments · Geekery, Politics

On Thursday, the Phoenix lander has not only found water on the little red planet known as Mars, but has also found oil — a substance particularly important in today’s society.
“They have discovered water on Mars for the third or fourth time,” one senior Mars scientist joked. These new MECA results are, according to the Phoenix team, a little more complex than the water “discovery.”
Off-shore drilling? How about off-planet drilling — it sounds more compelling.
This new substance, found on Mars, is being kept under wraps until a “further” investigation can determine the type of substance — Here’s a hint: IT’S OIL!
They have also made the decision to discuss the results with the Bush Administration’s Presidential Science Advisor’s office before a press conference between mid-August and early September. [Universe Today]
Stay tuned. Very soon we will be digging for oil on Mars.

Cameras funded by the Department of Homeland Security give officials a bird’s-eye view of much of Main Street and Market Square. Four are in place with plans for 40 more around the city.
If you’ve taken a stroll down Main Street in the past five months, chances are you were videotaped by a federally funded surveillance camera.
