Top 5 Free iPhone Apps

The App Store (along with the iPhone 3G) has been available as part of the iPhone 2.0 software update for about 2 weeks now. With the release of the App Store there has been a surge of new iPhone apps to the point of becoming overwhelming.

Here’s a list of my five favorite free apps (no games in this list, but look for the top iPhone game list soon).

Apple Now Third Largest PC Vendor in US

Apple is moving up the charts, toppling Acer to become the third largest PC vendor in the U.S., according to a survey from Gartner. Apple defied a weakening economy to record a 38.1 percent growth rate in U.S. PC shipments, according to Gartner. Overall PC shipments in the U.S. grew just 4.2 percent to 16.5 million units during the quarter.

WordPress for iPhone Available Now

To match Movable Type’s iPhone application, the fine folks at have finally gotten their app through Apple’s approval process and it is now available free on the iTunes App Store.

We’re live! WordPress for iPhone just launched on the App Store. Download it now and get to blogging. We’ll have more information about the project and how you can contribute soon.

How to reveal blocked caller ID info

Let’s say for some reason someone has his or her caller ID blocked and is calling you all the time. Let’s then say you really want to know who that person is for whatever reason — not that we’d know anything about that. Some crafty phreaker types have come up with a way to do this using an enterprise-spec asterisk box and a SIP trunk provider.

Apple Hints At Montevina Macbook Pro in August

Steve Jobs first suggests in the initial press release that Apple is “busy finishing several more wonderful new products to launch in the coming months.” Meanwhile, in the conference call, Apple executives repeated referred to a “product transition” that may affect Q4 revenue numbers. Typically, “product transitions” represent existing product line revisions. In this case, the MacBook and MacBook Pro have been widely expected to be revised in the coming months with both models starting to approach the end of their lifecycles. Intel has conveniently released a new processor and chipset that could be used in the new Apple laptops

Apple has joined the International retail presence in Beijing with their first Chinese Apple Store opening today. Without any other obligations on a Saturday morning, I decided to check out the scene at The Village at Sanlitun, near a popular Beijing nightlife hotspot.

Dark Knight Sets Record With $155M for Best Opening Weekend

Batman film The Dark Knight has set a box office record for best opening weekend ever at the US box office, distributor Warner Bros has said. The sequel took $155.3m (
£77.7m) surpassing the previous opening weekend record set by Spider-Man 3 last year, which took $151.1m (£75.5m).
